Timelike and Null Geodesics in the Schwarzschild Space-time: Analytical Solutions

چکیده
The theory of Schwarzschild geodesics is revisited. Using a theorem due to Weierstrass and Biermann, we derive concise formulas describing all timelike null trajectories in terms elliptic functions. formulation given this note uses an analogue the so-called Mino time.

Scaling solutions and geodesics in moduli space
In this paper we consider cosmological scaling solutions in general relativity coupled to scalar fields with a non-trivial moduli space metric. We discover that the scaling property of the cosmology is synonymous with the scalar fields tracing out a particular class of geodesics in moduli space-those which are constructed as integral curves of the gradient of the log of the potential. Given a g...
متن کاملStability of Closed Timelike Geodesics
The existence and stability under linear perturbations of closed timelike geodesics (CTG) in Bonnor-Ward spacetime is studied in some detail. Regions where the CTG exist and are linearly stable are exhibited. In 1949 Gödel found a solution to the Einstein field equation with nonzero cosmological constant that admits closed timelike curves (CTC) [1]. It could be argued that the Gödel solution is...
متن کاملThe Space of Null Geodesics (and a New Causal Boundary)
The space of null geodesics, G, of a space-time, M, carries information on various aspects of the causal structure M. In this contribution, we will review the space of null geodesics, G, and some natural structures which it carries, and see how aspects of the causal structure of M are encoded there. If M is strongly causal, then G has a natural contact manifold structure, points are represented...
متن کاملFe b 20 05 A Beltrami ’ s theorem and the geodesics in the Schwarzschild and Kerr space - time
We revisit a theorem, somehow neglected at present, due to E. Beltrami, through which the integration of the geodesic equations of a curved manifold is obtained by means of a method which, even if inspired by Hamilton-Jacobi method, is merely geometric. The application of this theorem to the Schwarzschild and Kerr metrics allows us to obtain in a straightforward and general way the solution of ...
متن کاملOptics in the Schwarzschild space - time
The first light detected from a relativistic region about a black hole was discovered by the ASCA satellite by Tanaka et al. (1995); Yaqoob et al. (1998). The now accepted theoretical model describing the broad X-ray emission lines is that of an accretion disk around either a Kerr or a Schwarzscild black hole (Laor 1991; Reynolds et al. 1995; Turner, George, Nandra, & Mushotzky 1997; Nandra et ...
